SIS - Sparc Instruction Simulator README file (v3.0.1, 09-10-1998)
-------------------------------------------------------------------

The SIS manual is provided in sis-3.0.1.pdf.

Two version of sis are now provided; sis and sis64. The later uses 64-bit
time which allows (almost) infinite simulation times. The downside is
a performance penalty of about 20% compared to the standard sis.

Below is a table for the execution speed (simulated KIPS) of SIS on various
platforms using the stanford benchmark:

PLATFORM KIPS

Sparcstation-5 (SunOs, 70 MHz) 285
Sparcstation-5 (SunOs, 110 MHz) 337
TI Extensa (Linux, pentium-133 MHz) 500
ASUS TX97-X (Win95, AMD K6 200 MHz) 834
Sparcstation Ultra-1 (usparc I, 140 MHz) 868
ASUS TX97-X (Linux, AMD K6 200 MHz) 970
SUN Ultra 10 Creator (usparc IIi, 300 MHz) 1347
Dell Optiplex G1 (Linux PII 300 Mhz) 1426
Gateway 2K (Linux PII 333 Mhz) 1472

To test your machine, just do 'sis stanford.exe' and type 'go' at the prompt.
After the program is finished, do 'per' to see the statistics.
Run the test several times and with no other load on the machine.
